After reviewing the video clips; Post a brief opinion about
each video. Respond to the questions below.
1. Do
you think RFID will ever get to the point of use that is demonstrated in
the IBM commercial
2. Will
customer demands continue to increase and place more pressure on your
supply chains?
Review and comment on at least 2 other postings in this
discussion.
My answer is YES.
RFID
Tag is already used in many areas through Supply Chains, such as
manufacturing plant, delivery vehicles, distribution center, retail
stores, etc. Every point of use where transactions happen between
suppliers and users, RFID Tag is shown as a major tool with RF Scanner
of verifying the information about product/shipments details and
quantity.
Of
course, my workplace that I work for at the moment is using RFID and RF
Scanner to handle all the products to process customer order as well as
receiving/stowing/moving inventory in hand.
Regarding
customer demand, I have no questions customers will increase their
demands for the products and services; even they will constantly
changing as well.
Problem
is that how can we expect or forecast them. This is why we must keep
balancing between our operation standards / quality of products between
service level and cost. Sometimes we have to use our power to pull the
customers to provide our higher level of supply chain/logistics
operation skills and sometimes we have to learn and adapt to customer’s
request or demand to keep as our customers.

RFID – IBM Commercial
Driver in Truck: Would you kindly tell me what you are doing
in the road?
Help Desk: I am with the help desk. You are lost? You are
heading to Fresno.
Driver in Truck: Fresno
right.
Help Desk: This is the road to Albuquerque
Driver in Truck: How did you know we were lost?
Help Desk: The boxes told me.
Driver in Truck: The boxes?
Help Desk: RFID radio tags on the cargo, helps track
shipments
Driver in Truck: The boxes knew we
were lost.
Passenger in Truck: Maybe the boxes should drive.
Driver in Truck: Very funny.
Supply Chain Management in
the 21st Century
Narrorator:As
a child when you wanted something, all you could do is cry. You were helpless,
you had no choice but to wait until someone else figured out what you needed.
As an adult you have a world of choices before you, customers today can have
exactly what they want when they want it. , just about anything is possible. It
used to be that a highly successful automotive manufacturer would sell you any
colour car you wanted as long as it was black.
Today at the dawn of the
customer century, if you are not able to meet your customer’s increasingly
specific demands, you will not be able to complete with those who can and will.
We are witnessing a fundamental shift in power from supplier to customer. Enabled
in part by easy web access to comparative information. Your customers are now
only one click away from your competition.
Business as usual will cease to be
business at all. A new level of responsiveness is required. Electronic commerce
is the reality of the future, thus the need for accelerated and integrated
business processes that can keep up with these increasing volatility. The
successful company in the customer century will be equipped with a competitive
advantage that streamlines and integrates core business processes across the
enterprise, enabling intelligent collaboration with customers and suppliers.
High
velocity means being able to move quickly in the right direction, delivering
the right product at the right time while making rapid course changes as
needed. The high velocity enterprise will identify ideal channels for selling
and marketing, streamline supplier and transportation relationships, respond
faster to customer demand.
Success will depend on the ability to predict or taylor
a future that is aligned with strategic objectives. In the customer century
value will be created by business leaders bold enough to change the way they do
business.
If your goal is to prepare for the customer century and to create
value for your company by becoming a high velocity enterprise, then you have
come to the right place.
